Algebra 5-5  Using an automatic grapher.

Rewrite the following equations so they would be in the correct

form for you to enter them into Y= on your graphing calculator.

1.         x + y = 10        ___________________

2.         4x + y = 7        ___________________

3.         x – y = 9          ___________________

4.         4x – 2y = 8      ___________________

5.         3x – ½ y = 5    ___________________

6.         On your graphing calculator, go to Y= and enter these equations.

            Y1 = 3x + 200              Y2 = 5x + 130

Now go to your window and decide what your

Xmin, Xmax, Ymin, and Ymax should be.

Think about where these graphs will start off when x = 0.

What you want to find is where these graphs cross.

Once you set your window, graph the function.

Using your TRACE key try to find a close approximation for

            the intersection of these lines.

            What was your approximation?

                                                            ( ____, ____)

Now hit the CALC button above the TRACE key.

            Select button 5 intersect.

Since there are only two lines just hit ENTER

when it says first curve and second curve.

Do the same when it says GUESS.

            What was the intersection?

                                                            ( ____, ____)
